Key industry updates at BAMA’s June Discussion Evening

On Tuesday 11 June, BAMA’s Aerosol Discussion Evening in York will play host to informative presentations from the Cosmetic Toiletry & Perfumery Association (CTPA) and MAKE UK.
The CTPA has been following the development of regulation related to cosmetic products in the UK and EU post-Brexit, including the implementation of the UK Cosmetics Regulation (UKCR). At the Discussion Evening, they will share how these are working and how the Product Safety Review has threatened the regulation’s continuity but also brought about areas where industry sees opportunities.
The Association will also examine the continued regulation of claims made on cosmetics products to protect consumers. Highlighting the notable focus on sustainability and green claims that have brought the cosmetics industry under scrutiny by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), they will look at the lessons that can be learned and how to approach messaging responsibly.
The presentation will also look at the CTPA’s relationship with enforcement authorities, including Trading Standards and the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS).
Nico Shaw Núñez, director of regulation at the CTPA, said: "CTPA's manifesto towards the UK general election highlights the importance of upholding good regulation, and the BAMA discussion evening is a welcomed opportunity for us to share the UK's approach to cosmetic safety and consumer protection regulation."
Political engagement updates from MAKE UK
The evening will also feature a UK political engagement update from manufacturing organisation, MAKE UK. The presentation will touch on the significance of the recent mayoral election results to manufacturers and provide an objective view on what the different political parties offer and the implications for manufacturers. The organisation will also provide insights on their discussions with government and the opposition, plus details on its political engagement programme and updates on the policy wins the organisation has achieved.
Tom Burdon, stakeholder engagement adviser at MAKE UK said: “As the voice of Britain’s manufacturers, we take industry’s issues to decision makers at the heart of government. In last year’s Autumn Statement MAKE UK’s policy campaigning succeeded in persuading the government to make capital allowances on qualifying plant and machinery investments permanent – one of the most important asks of us by our members.”
Life outside of FEA
BAMA chief executive, Patrick Heskins will also deliver a presentation on "Life outside of FEA” detailing BAMA's plans to keep members updated on EU regulations following its exit from the European Aerosol Federation at the end of the year.
Heskins said: “The discussion topics will no doubt raise lots of interesting talking points for attendees who will be able to network with speakers and colleagues throughout the evening. We welcome anyone within the industry to come along and find out more about how BAMA interacts with industry and our members.”
