Ball sets out sustainability scenarios

Ball Corporation has released its new Climate Transition Plan, which outlines the company's planned pathway and evolution into a fully circular and decarbonised business, allowing it to better serve its stakeholders and deliver solutions that benefit the planet.
The plan was released alongside Ball's 2022 Combined Report, which details the company's stated commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability, as well as progress against its 2030 stewardship and social impact goals.
The report notes that, in early 2020, Ball's 2030 climate goals were approved by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), an international governing body that independently assesses and approves corporate GHG goals.
Scope 1, 2 and 3
The company described its Scope 1 emissions as primarily driven by its use of natural gas to cure inks and coatings in ovens, heat water for its washing processes, burn volatile organic compounds in thermal oxidisers, and - depending on the location and temperatures - comfort heating.
