Going downstream with incoming EU regulations

Giulia Sebastio, scientific and regulatory affairs manager at Downstream Users of Chemicals Co-ordination group (DUCC), spoke about major upcoming changes to chemicals regulations in the European Union (EU) at Aerosol Today in Lisbon in September.
Sebastio outlined key changes to the Chemicals Strategy on Sustainability (CSS), Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP), Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), the Generic Risk Approach (GRA) and the Mixture Assessment Factor (MAF) – and how organisations can best make their voices heard.
DUCC is a platform where the 11 industry associations that represent downstream user formulations sit together to find common ground on key topics, and includes the FEA as one of its members. It represents 9,000 companies and has been operational for 20 years.
The CSS was published in 2020, and its ostensible aims are to strengthen chemical legislation, increase protection of human health and environment and boost the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.
