The Clorox Company has appointed Fabian Garcia, currently president of Unilever Personal Care, as its next chief executive.
Garcia will take up the role on 5 January 2027 and join the board on the same date. He succeeds Linda Rendle, who announced in May that she would step down for health reasons. Rendle will remain chair and CEO until Garcia arrives. She will then leave the board but stay on in an advisory role until 2 April 2027 to support the handover.
Matthew Shattock, Clorox’s lead independent director and a former board chair, will become independent chair when Garcia joins.
Garcia brings more than 40 years of consumer goods experience. He joined Unilever in 2020 and has held several senior roles there, including president of Unilever North America, and he sits on the company’s leadership executive team. Unilever’s Personal Care business includes some of the world’s best-known aerosol deodorant brands, among them Dove, Rexona and Axe (sold as Lynx in the UK).
Before Unilever, Garcia was CEO of Revlon and chief operating officer for global innovation and growth at Colgate-Palmolive, where he led growth strategy, consumer innovation and productivity programmes. He began his career at Procter & Gamble in a series of global leadership roles. He is currently a director of Wells Fargo and has previously served on the boards of Kimberly-Clark and Arrow Electronics.
Shattock said Garcia had a strong record of delivering results, building lasting brands and developing teams. He said Garcia’s experience of running large consumer businesses, driving innovation and handling shifting customer and channel dynamics made him well suited to lead Clorox. He added that the board was confident Garcia could build on Rendle’s work, sharpen execution and position the company for sustainable growth.
Shattock also thanked Rendle for leading Clorox through some of the most significant periods in its history.
Garcia said Clorox had an exceptional portfolio of trusted brands and loyal consumers. “While there is more work ahead to strengthen performance and realise the company’s full potential, I am energised by the opportunity and confident in Clorox’s future,” he said.
Rendle described leading Clorox as the privilege of her career and said she was handing over with great confidence.
