MicroCare launches HFC-free flux remover to replace FRC

MicroCare has launched FRC2 General Purpose Flux Remover, an HFC-free cleaner for removing no-clean and rosin fluxes from electronic assemblies and components.

FRC2 replaces the company’s FRC General Purpose Flux Remover, which is being discontinued. It comes in aerosol and bulk liquid formats for benchtop and bulk cleaning applications.

The aerosol version is aimed at benchtop rework, repair and maintenance. It can be used with MicroCare’s TriggerGrip Cleaning Tool for targeted dispensing. The bulk liquid is designed for cold dip-and-wipe cleaning of larger components and assemblies and for production cleaning. It is available in several package sizes.

“FRC2 builds on the cleaning performance customers have come to expect from FRC while providing an updated chemistry for today’s electronics manufacturing environment,” said Vince Libercci, National Sales Manager at MicroCare. “It gives manufacturers a fast, easy-to-use way to remove flux without leaving residue or requiring a rinse.”

MicroCare said the new formulation gives electronics manufacturers another option as they reassess cleaning chemistries in response to changing regulations and environmental concerns. The company describes FRC2 as ozone-safe with a medium global warming potential (GWP).

The cleaner is nonflammable, non-corrosive and ESD-safe. Because it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue, no secondary rinse is needed.

FRC2 is formulated for through-hole, surface-mount technology (SMT) and ball grid array (BGA) circuit boards, as well as hybrids, cables and connectors. It is compatible with many common materials, including epoxies, nylon, polyethylene and polypropylene. MicroCare advises users to check product guidance for specific applications.

The company also offers lint-free cleaning wipes to go with the product.
