Nouryon promotes biocide options for disinfectant formulators as EU regulations tighten

Specialty chemicals company Nouryon is showcasing its biocides portfolio for disinfectant cleaning product manufacturers at this week's SEPAWA Congress in Berlin, positioning the range as an answer to tightening regulatory requirements in Europe.

The company offers two chemistries for formulators: its Arquad quaternary ammonium compounds and a non-quat alternative, Triameen Y12D.

Both are designed for use in household, industrial and institutional disinfecting cleaners and are backed by regulatory dossiers under the EU's Biocidal Products Regulation. Triameen Y12D is also registered with the US Environmental Protection Agency and in all 50 US states.

Nouryon said the ingredients have demonstrated efficacy against bacteria, yeasts and enveloped viruses in European standard tests EN 1276, EN 1650 and EN 14476, and appear on the French Positive List for biocidal active substances.

Brad Pearson, vice president of cleaning goods at Nouryon, said: "Having more than one chemistry to choose from gives our customers options as rules continue to evolve. We've invested in the science behind these ingredients for years, so as restrictions change, our customers will continue to have options."
