Tubex’s “Minimalist” wins German Packaging Award

Tubex has been awarded a German Packaging Award in the "Design & Processing" category for its Minimalist spray head - the first recyclable spray head made mostly of aluminium, for aluminium aerosol cans.
The patent-pending Minimalist concept aimed to substitute as many plastic parts with aluminium as possible, to offer brands a product that is almost 100% monomaterial packaging (>95%).
The substitution enhances the recyclability of the entire aerosol can, with Tubex saying that it will be best-in-class when assessed according to the upcoming packaging and packaging waste regulations.
This innovation forms a large part of Tubex's sustainability strategy, added the organisation.
The jury said: "The newly designed and patented 'THE MINIMALIST' spray head is made mainly of metal. This reduces the plastic content to 5% meaning the can falls into recycling class A with a metal content of 95%.
"This is an ecological and economic benefit, as significantly less plastic is burnt in the recycling process and at the same time, fewer levies are incurred under the Dual System.
"The unique technology opens up new design possibilities, and the designs are correspondingly innovative and diverse. The German Packaging Award jury considers this innovation fully worthy of an award."
The German Packaging Award Ceremony was held on 14 September in Berlin.
