PiiPER launches edible aerosol colour spray range

PiiPER, a newly launched cake decorating brand aimed at a younger generation of home bakers, has debuted with a product lineup built around edible aerosol colour sprays, alongside frostings and edible glitter dust.

The brand's positioning centres on making baking decoration feel accessible and enjoyable rather than technical or time-consuming.

The Color Spray range launches in six shades—Rose Gold, Neptune Blue, Gold Rush, Blackout, Chrome and Pinky Promise—each formulated with a hint of vanilla flavouring, extending the product's sensory appeal beyond visual finish alone.

The spray is designed for use across a range of baked goods including cookies, cakes, frosting and fondant, with a stated dry time of one to three minutes.

From an aerosol product development standpoint, edible colour sprays present a distinct formulation challenge compared with conventional decorative aerosols: the product must deliver consistent, food-safe colour coverage whilst maintaining flavour compatibility, rapid dry time to suit home kitchen use, and stability across the varied surface types bakers are likely to apply it to—from delicate buttercream to firmer fondant. A one-to-three-minute dry window suggests a formulation balancing fast solvent or carrier evaporation against even colour deposition, a consideration particularly relevant for inexperienced home users who may not have professional spray technique.

Co-Founder Matthew Biggins described the gap in the market that prompted the brand's development, noting that his teenage daughter's enthusiasm for baking wasn't well served by existing products, which he characterised as either premium-priced, labour-intensive to prepare from scratch, or visually dated in their packaging and branding.

Ashley Vickery, Director of Product Development at PiiPER, framed the broader intent behind the range: to position hands-on kitchen creativity as an engaging alternative to passive screen time for younger users, with the Color Spray, Buttercream Frosting and Edible Glitter products each designed so that the process of decorating feels as rewarding as the finished result.

The launch reflects a wider trend within the food and beverage aerosol space toward products aimed at younger, less experienced users—where ease of application, rapid results and appealing packaging carry as much weight in product design as functional performance. For aerosol manufacturers and formulators, PiiPER's debut lineup illustrates how flavour integration, fast-dry performance and accessible application are increasingly treated as core design requirements rather than secondary features within the edible decorating category.
