P&G’s Microban 24 Sanitising Spray approved by Health Canada

Health Canada has approved Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) Microban 24 Sanitising Spray as effective in killing SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Under Health Canada’s guidelines, Microban 24 Sanitising Spray has been tested by a third-party lab and was shown to kill SARS-CoV-2 in five minutes.

Microban 24 Sanitising Spray, available in ‘Fresh Scent’ and ‘Citrus Scent’, is the second product in the brand’s line-up that provides an initial ‘kill’ of the virus, when used as directed. Microban 24 Multi-Purpose Cleaner was also approved by Health Canada in January.

When used as directed as a disinfectant, Microban 24 Sanitising Spray kills 99.9% of cold and flu viruses within 5 minutes of being sprayed. When used for 24-hour sanitising, the product kills 99.9% of bacteria for 24 hours.

“Canadians wish to keep their families and loved ones safe during this time, so we are excited to have Health Canada’s approval on the Microban 24 Sanitising Spray,” said Moses Ogbonnaya, P&G Canada’s country leader in the fabric and home care division, “as it can provide Canadians with added peace of mind, in addition to protection against bacteria for up to 24 hours.”

As the pandemic persists through 2021, it’s important for people to continue doing their part by disinfecting high-touch surfaces to lower the chance of COVID-19 spreading in the home, workplace, and public spaces.

Jason Treto, long-time infection prevention and control researcher, said: “It’s important to have a product that has gone through the rigour of testing to show it has the ability to kill. It provides the confidence every family needs that they are doing the best they can to stay safe.”
