KDC/One closes Swallowfield facilty to consolidate production in Scotland

KDC/One has announced plans to close its Swallowfield production facility in Wellington, Somerset in England, transferring operations to its recently acquired Barony Universal site in Ayrshire, Scotland.
The move is part of a strategic realignment aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the company’s growth objectives.
The Canadian-owned business acquired Swallowfield, a manufacturer of aerosols and personal care products, for approximately £35 million in 2018 and subsequently consolidated parts of its Europe-wide operations in Wellington. The site currently employs 259 staff.
The closure follows KDC/One’s acquisition of Barony Universal in September, a modern, automated contract-filling facility for personal care and household aerosols.
Nicholas Whitley, President of KDC/One, stated: "The acquisition was part of an ongoing assessment of our global operations and strategy to drive growth in the UK and internationally. Barony Universal’s advanced production capabilities prompted a review of our UK estate to ensure it aligns with future operational requirements.
"While we have invested significantly in the Wellington site since acquisition, the infrastructure no longer meets the standards required to support our growth ambitions. Consequently, we propose to transfer Swallowfield production to Scotland to optimise efficiency."
Whitley highlighted KDC/One’s commitment to managing the transition responsibly: "As a significant employer in Wellington, we recognise the local impact and will work closely with business partners, local authorities, and workforce support agencies to assist affected employees."
No definitive timeline for the Wellington closure has been announced.
