Global Recycling Foundation honours Despray Environmental’s Mike Mackay
This recognition, awarded on the occasion of the seventh Global Recycling Day (18 March), celebrates Mackay's exceptional contributions to advancing aerosol recycling technology, said Despray Environmental.
The company said that, under Mackay's leadership, it has recycled over 560 million aerosol cans. This showcases 'unparalleled commitment to sustainable practices,' it added.
According to the organisation, Mackay's innovative approach ensures that 100% of the propellant greenhouse gases and liquid waste are captured - both of which are utilised for waste-to-energy processes.
What remains is a dense brick of metal, which achieves a 100% recycling rate.
Ranjit Baxi, founding president of the Global Recycling Foundation, emphasised Mackay's accomplishments, stating: "Mike Mackay's dedication to advancing aerosol recycling technology sets a precedent for environmental stewardship. His pioneering efforts epitomise the spirit of the Recycling Heroes award, demonstrating the transformative power of sustainable practices."
