Unilever is set to significantly expand its operations in Hungary with a 30 billion forint (€76 million) investment in a new production facility in Nyírbátor, in the country’s north-east, reported Hungary Today.
The consumer goods multinational, which has operated in Hungary for three decades, is enlarging its manufacturing base to include hygiene products alongside its existing home-care chemicals lines.
The project features a 10,000-square-metre factory hall, currently under construction by Austrian contractor Strabag, according to Magyar Építők.
When operational, the new plant will be capable of producing around 150 million aerosol deodorant bottles per year, primarily for export to Eastern European markets.
This expansion will make the Nyírbátor site the fourth-largest aerosol production facility in Unilever’s global network.
The brownfield development began in autumn 2024 with demolition works.
Structural construction has been underway since March.
The complex will include a production hall, raw-material mixing plant, office space and warehouses for both inputs and finished goods.
The design combines prefabricated frame elements with monolithic wall sections for enhanced durability.
Given the sandy soil conditions next to the existing plant and the specific risks of aerosol manufacturing, the project is subject to particularly strict fire-safety and occupational-safety regulations.
Installation of specialised technical systems required for aerosol production will follow later, with trial operations scheduled for summer 2026.
The expansion is expected to increase Unilever’s production capacity, create new jobs and reinforce the region’s industrial importance.
