Unilever has opened its new US headquarters in Hoboken, New Jersey in the US, marking a major milestone in its strategic focus on innovation and flexible working.
Located at 111 River Street, the 111,000-square-foot space brings together more than 1,100 employees from across its business units, including personal care, beauty and corporate functions.
The opening reflects Unilever’s continued investment in environments that support collaboration, creativity, and product development, according to the corporation.
Designed in partnership with the global firm Perkins & Will, the space emphasises sustainability, employee wellness and operational agility.
Of particular relevance to the personal care and aerosols industry is the inclusion of a full-service salon where leading brands such as Dove, TRESemmé, and Nexxus are tested in real-life conditions.
This setting allows for hands-on product trials, customer feedback, and the development of aerosol-based and other delivery formats that align with evolving consumer expectations.
Another feature is a professional-grade kitchen used by Unilever Food Solutions, which serves as a model for innovation across sensory-driven product categories.
Throughout the building, flexible collaboration zones, open floor plans, and integrated wellness spaces aim to promote a dynamic and productive working atmosphere.
Panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline provide a striking backdrop for hybrid collaboration across floors seven and eight, while a penthouse-level town hall offers space for events, training and team-building.
Unilever said sustainability remains central to the design, with the headquarters featuring energy-efficient HVAC systems, LED lighting and low-flow water fixtures.
The construction also prioritised recycled and low-emitting materials, in line with Unilever’s global environmental targets and growing demand for low-impact production processes in the beauty and personal care space.
According to Herrish Patel, Unilever USA President and CEO of Personal Care North America, the headquarters is a reflection of the company’s future-facing outlook and commitment to supporting creativity at scale.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on 5 June 2025.
