Schwarzkopf partners with TerraCycle on aerosol recycling scheme

Schwarzkopf, owned by Henkel, has partnered with international recycling leader TerraCycle to make its retail hair care, colour and styling products recyclable across the US.

As of 1 January, consumers are being invited to collect and post in their empty product packaging from participating Schwarzkopf hair care products, including the brand’s got2b styling & colour, Colour Ultime, Keratin Colour and the newly launched Simply Colour.

The Schwarzkopf and TerraCycle partnership includes the Schwarzkopf Aerosols Recycling Program, allowing consumers to recycle their empty branded aerosol cans to sign up via the programme page. When ready to ship the waste, consumers can download a free shipping label and post the empty cans to TerraCycle for processing.

“Hair care products are a staple in the daily routines of countless consumers,” said Tom Szaky, CEO and founder of TerraCycle. “The launch of the Schwarzkopf Recycling Programs represents an exciting opportunity to diver a large category of waste from landfills. We look forward to partnering with this forward-thinking company for many years to come and continue to offer sustainable solutions to traditionally hard-to-recycle packaging.”

Martina Spinatsch, vice-president of research and development in Henkel North America’s Beauty Care division, said: “The expansion of Henkel’s partnership with TerraCycle is an important part of Henkel’s commitment to a circular economy for plastic and sustainable packaging, and our target of ensuring a 100% of our Beauty and Laundry & Home Care packaging is recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.”
