Respray, a Budapest-based sustainability start-up, has achieved a significant industry milestone with the launch of the world’s first in-store spray refill stations, now operational in 30 ROSSMANN Magyarország stores across Hungary.
The launch follows two years of successful pilot testing in three Budapest locations, during which the company refined its technology and gathered essential user insights.
The in-store refill stations enable customers to replenish spray-based products, offering a scalable solution to reduce single-use packaging and support more sustainable consumption practices.
Gergely Zámbó, co-founder and managing director of Respray, commented: "After two years of development and testing, we are proud to see our refill stations fully operational in ROSSMANN stores across Hungary. For those of us who have dedicated years to building this solution from the ground up, this is a defining moment."
Founded over five years ago by Zámbó and Andor Réti, Respray was created to address the environmental challenges posed by traditional packaging in the personal care and household sectors.
The company’s refill technology is designed to integrate seamlessly into retail environments, reducing plastic waste and encouraging circularity.
"This achievement is the result of extensive collaboration, innovation and resilience," added Zámbó. "Bringing the concept to market required navigating significant technical and operational challenges - from product engineering to deployment at scale."
Respray’s refill stations represent a tangible step towards more sustainable retail infrastructure, aligning with broader industry goals around waste reduction and environmental responsibility.
