P&G’s Microban 24 Sanitising Spray kills SARS-CoV-2, says US EPA

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved Procter & Gamble’s Microban 24 Sanitising Spray as effective at killing SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

For a product to claim it kills a specific pathogen, the US EPA must conduct a data review and provide approval. P&G’s Microban 24 Sanitising Spray has been tested by a third-party laboratory, following the US EPA’s testing guidelines, and was shown to kill SARS-CoV-2 in 60 seconds.

“Microban 24 Sanitising Spray was introduced in February to give consumers a sanitising product that works as hard as they do, providing protection against bacteria for up to 24 hours,” said Martin Hettich, senior vice-president of North America Home Care at P&G.

“As Americans shifted from their standard sanitising routine to one focused on protecting their homes against the COVID-19 virus, P&G has been diligently working with scientists and health experts to ensure that Microban 24 Sanitising Spray provides the effectiveness against COVID-19 that people need.”

Microban 24 is designed to kill 99.99% of bacteria and viruses, including viruses that cause common colds and the flu. It also provides a protective shield that continues to kill bacteria for up to 24 hours, even when the surface is touched or contacted multiple times.
