Nuance Medical has announced the launch of Hurri-Freeze, a new topical anesthetic spray designed to provide fast, safe and environmentally friendly pain relief at the point of care.
The product is the first and only FDA-cleared hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) topical anesthetic spray for broad medical use.
Hurri-Freeze is intended for a wide range of applications, including minor surgical procedures, injections, blood draws, sports injuries, minor cuts, burns, insect bites and other small wounds.
The spray produces a rapid numbing effect by cooling the skin, typically lasting around one minute, allowing healthcare professionals to perform procedures with improved patient comfort.
According to Nuance Medical, Hurri-Freeze offers a colder performance than conventional topical anesthetics while reducing environmental impact.
Its global warming potential is reported to be 99% lower than traditional HFC topical anesthetic sprays. The product is non-toxic, HAZMAT-free, non-flammable, and safe for use on intact mucous membranes and minor open wounds.
The spray can be applied at any angle, with both mist and medium stream options, and is designed to be economical compared with competitor products. Hurri-Freeze joins Nuance Medical’s existing portfolio of FDA-cleared products, including the HurriCaine Benzocaine range, already used in more than 25,000 offices and hospitals across the United States.
