Jamestrong Packaging opens aluminium casting line in New South Wales

The new facility enables the company to produce aluminium slugs on-site using ingots supplied by Tomago Aluminium, reducing reliance on imports and lowering transport-related emissions.
These slugs form the base material for more than 100 million aerosol cans produced annually at the Taree plant.
According to Jamestrong, the investment secures existing roles and creates new positions at the site, with the workforce increasing by about 15 per cent during the project’s construction.
The company is also partnering with the University of New South Wales’ Sustainable Materials Research & Technology (SMaRT) Centre to explore the use of recycled aluminium through its Green Aluminium MICROfactorie technology.
SMaRT Centre director Professor Veena Sahajwalla said the collaboration demonstrates how manufacturing waste can be reused as feedstock for high-value products, supporting Australia’s shift towards a circular economy.
The project was backed by the federal government’s Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy programme.
