FEA releases 2023 European filling figures

Based on reported fillings for European aerosol products, total unit production held steady at 5.2 billion units in 2023.
The annual data collected among FEA members focuses on giving a detailed summary of European aerosol product production by country, segment and type.
The United Kingdom filled 1.4 billion cans, representing 26.9% of the total.
Germany reported 920 million units filled, which was 17.4% of the total production figures.
At 12.4%, France reported 657.9 million aerosol cans being filled.
Italy made up 10.3% (546.6 million), Netherlands 7.1% (378.1 million), Spain 5.8% (306 million), Belgium 291.4 million, Turkey 136.1 million and Poland 69.8 million of the total.
Production by segment
Once again, personal care made up the majority of production, at 56.4%.
Deodorants/antiperspirants accounted for 1,783,006 of the total, with hairsprays at 422,385; hair mousses 266,469; shaving mousses & gels 246,926 and 'Other' at 265,391.
Household products were 19.4%.
Of these, 470,532 were air fresheners; 199,784 were insecticides & plant protection products; 102,597 fabric/furniture/leather/shoe/textile care products; 47,830 were cleaning products and 202,320 were in the 'Other' category.
Finally, 24.2% of the total number of sprays filled fell into the 'Other' category.
Paints & varnishes (excluding automobiles) came to 324,461. Industrial & technical products reached 284,488. Automotive products (excluding paints) were 182,439. Pharmaceutical & veterinary products amounted to 109,137; and 'Others' 120,813.
Worldwide production
Based on currently available data, Europe remains the strongest region for aerosol production globally.
The US is the second-biggest producer, with 3.7 billion units being filled.
