FEA releases 2022 aerosol production figures for UK, Germany and France

The European Aerosol Federation (FEA) has released its 2022 aerosol production figures for the UK, Germany and France.
It said that, collectively, the three nations are contributing over 50% of the annual production of aerosol dispensers in Europe, and have shown a 1% growth compared to 2021.
The UK's total aerosol production came to almost 1.5 billion units, followed by Germany at 971 million and France at 649.8 million, according to the FEA' s figures.
Personal care
The personal care segment saw the greatest volume of production, constituting 71.1% of the UK's output. Of these, 671 million were deodorants/antiperspirants, 169 million were hair mousses/sprays and 156 million were shaving foams & gels.
For Germany, 64.6% of its production manifested in the personal care segment. Deodorants/antiperspirants came to 402 million, hair mousses/sprays to 152 million and shaving foams & gels to 42 million.
Over two-thirds (68.9%) of France's aerosol production was in the personal care segment. Deodorant/antiperspirant products reached 109 million, hair mousses/sprays came to 139 million and shaving foams & gels came to 45 million. The FEA stated that France produced 154 million units categorised as 'other' within the personal care segment.
Household
The UK's household segment represented 19.7% of the country's total output. Air fresheners dominated, at 175 million units. Insecticides & plant protection products came to 9 million.
Just 4% of Germany's production catered for the household segment. Air fresheners reached 27 million, as did insecticides & plant protection sprays.
For France, 10.8% of production volume came within the household segment. Air fresheners represented 5 million units, and insecticides & plant protection sprays 3 million.
All three of the countries were well-represented within the 'other' category for the household segment: 98 million units were produced in the UK; 31 million in Germany and 17 million in France.
Others
For the automotive products, paints & varnishes and industrial technical category, the UK produced 100 million units, Germany 220 million and France 97 million.
Pharmaceutical & veterinary products saw 31 million units being produced in the UK, 25 million in Germany and 28 million in France.
The food products & miscellaneous category saw 2 million units being produced in the UK, 60 million in Germany and 7 million in France.
Materials
The FEA stated that, in the UK, 56% of aerosol containers were made of aluminium, and 44% of steel. Germany was slightly more weighted towards aluminium at 59%; and 41% of aerosol containers produced in Germany were made of steel. The figure was more balanced in France - 51% of aerosol containers produced there were made of aluminium, and 49% of steel.
Plastic and glass containers were less than 1%.
The FEA said its full report on aerosol production 2022 in Europe will be available at the end of August.
