Benzene – a contamination crisis?

In recent months, there have been multiple cases of benzene found in aerosol products. Valisure, a US online pharmacy that independently checks chemical compositions of healthcare products, recently published its findings related to benzene contamination.

Valisure has detected high levels of benzene, a carcinogen, in several brands and batches of antiperspirant body sprays, as well as in deodorant body spray products.

In response to rising concerns about counterfeits, generics, and overseas manufacturing, Valisure’s team of scientists developed proprietary analytical technologies to screen products, identify critical issues, and offer certification to help distinguish quality stakeholders and products. The company has ISO 17025 accreditation and is DEA and FDA registered.

Valisure regularly screens through thousands of drug and consumer products as part of its independent certification work for pharmacy clients. As part of this work, and as the firm expanded the chemical contaminants it screens for, Valisure published its findings of benzene in hand sanitisers, followed a few months later with benzene in sunscreens...
